Stirling Sunriser – “Go further, see more”
Take our water taxi out beyond Stirling Falls (151m). A highlight of this trip is paddling as close as you dare beneath this magnificent waterfall. It is exhilarating fun and an exciting way to start our most popular trip on Milford Sound.
First we transport you to Deep Water basin where you change into paddling attire and receive a full safety and paddle briefing (We depart from Milford Sound Lodge in Milford Sound or for those staying in Te Anau our guided safari transport is an optional add-on which includes pick-up and drop-off to your accommodation.
Next we climb aboard our water taxi and head out beyond Stirling Falls. Here we launch the kayaks off the boat and start paddling towards the falls, cascading a huge 151m directly into the fiord. You have the option of paddling under the falls or simply admiring them from a distance.
We continue along the sheltered north side of Milford Sound, around Williamson Point and beneath Mt Pembroke, the highest mountain in the Sound at 2105m, to Harrison Cove. From here we pass beneath the Cascade Peaks (1209m) to the Lady Bowen Falls at 160m the highest permanent waterfall in Milford Sound. Through the shallow tide amongst the reeds, you follow the shoreline back into Deep Water Basin. Grasp your last views of Mitre Peak. Returning to Milford Sound Lodge there is time now to reflect and celebrate your part in the adventure which is the magnificent Milford Sound Stirling Sunriser.
Milford truly is a huge chunk of paradise and I’m so glad to have seen with the peace and tranquility of a kayak trip. The trip to and from Te Anau is also a wicked journey made all the more so by Danger’s little extra’s – was definitely loving the swimming and cartwheels! Cheers – Rick (Ireland)
